Diary – April 7: Reflections on Sleep and Busyness
Sleep hours are not a major concern. When we cannot sleep, we simply do not; when we can, we do. I once took sleep lightly.
Lately, I’ve noticed that for several months now, I have struggled to sleep because I’m so focused on all the necessary tasks. At first, I didn’t see much difference in the quality of my work, but now I realize that the words I write don’t linger in my mind as they used to.
Before I began counselling and writing, these activities refreshed me and filled me with energy. They also allowed me to think clearly about business plans and the sustainability of my work and that of my team.
Now, the lack of sleep—and my failure to value those quiet moments in bed—has seriously diminished the quality of my life and my work. The worst part is feeling constantly busy. I want to achieve more, both on my own and together with my team. I have the best team, yet I still feel overwhelmed. If my income and business were larger, I might understand, but given their modest scale, this endless busyness is quite puzzling.
Today, I reflect on these challenges as I turn to Psalm 90:12:
Psalm 90:12 (NRSV):
“Teach us to number our days, that we may get a heart of wisdom.”
This verse reminds me to value each moment, learn from my limited time, and find wisdom in stillness.
Key Hebrew Phrases and Their Meanings:
- לְמִסְפַּר יָמֵינוּ (l’mispar yameinu):
“To number our days”—This calls us to recognize the finite nature of our time, urging us to live each day with intention.
• • לְבָבחָכְמָה (levav chokhmah):
“A heart of wisdom”—This phrase suggests that true wisdom arises from within, nurtured by the awareness of life’s brevity and the thoughtful use of our days.
